KNOW HOW

Our Ethical Principles

  • The breeding regulation serve to systematically promote the breeding of German and Belgian Shepherd Dogs as working dogs for their diverse uses.
  • The breeding and development of the German and Belgian Shepherd Dogs must be based on long-term objectives and sound principles.
  • The aim of breeding is to preserve and expand the genetic diversity of the breeds.
  • It may only be bred with functionally healthy dogs. It is the responsibility of every breeder to check whether the dog intended for breeding is suitable for breeding in terms of its behavioral and physical characteristics.
  • The breeder must ensure conditions for breeding animals that meet their physical and psychological needs.
  • While a puppy is in the custody of the breeder, the breeder must ensure that the puppy grows up in conditions that are favorable for psychological and physical development, and that this enables good socialization.

BREEDING

The Working Dog Definition

WORKING DOG

As such, it's used by humans, with it's innate behaviours and abilities, to support their own work. In doing so, humans claim the right to control the dog. From the very beginning of domestication, this has been a key motivation for humans to enter into a symbiosis with dogs. This anthropocentric approach benefits the animal in that it is given the opportunity to exercise its instinctual and cognitive abilities.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE

Emphasizing the working dog's performance requires a special quality of work. This is determined by physical and psychological components. A demand for performance implies the development and testing of these abilities. This endeavour is limited by the idea of ethical animal welfare.

CAN DO

The working dog possesses the necessary prerequisites for training. These do not necessarily have to be fully utilized. If it functions purely as a companion and service dog, it must be given the necessary training and opportunity to sufficiently express itself. Drive qualities describe the psychological components of the constitution. They determine the type and sequence of functions and reactions.

The different purposes of the working dog require different drive qualities. The drive-related behavioural determinants arise from the fundamentals of species preservation: hunger, sex drive, flight, aggression. The composition and degree of expression determine the intended purpose.

CONSTITUTION

It's determined by components such as drive qualities, overall anatomical structure, vitality, longevity, agility, strength, and endurance.

They must all correspond to the respective intended purpose by humans. With the right to dispose of the dog, humans assume responsibility. They must breed, keep, and train the dog in such a way that the dog can fulfil the respective tasks in the spirit of ethical animal welfare. Particular emphasis must be placed on the conservation of genetic resources.

VARIOUS TASKS

The variance of drive qualities and constitution results in a multitude of possible uses, which the human uses according to his or her specific needs. The use of a working dog requires training. Training channels the dog's natural drives into desired behaviours. This process is based on ethological findings and cynological-empirical knowledge.

RELEVANT TRAINING

The human right to influence the dog's natural behaviour in order to shape it appropriately and make it controllable also implies coercive measures. The proportionality of the means must be maintained. Conflict resolution during training shapes the dog's personality. The training of working dogs also has breeding relevance. It serves to identify suitable individuals through defined tests and to introduce them for breeding.

EDUCATION

We offer you our own examination system & seminars in tracking, obedience and protection work, helper workshops, judges' conferences and breeding lectures.

We continuously arrange different events as sichtungen, körungen, exhibitions, trials, seminars, webinars, helper education and selection – and much more.

RSV TRIALS

Most clubs prefer RSV SchH, because the dog sportler don’t go to the FCI and WUSV WM anyway. They go to the RSV World Championship, which are held after the Schutzhund test.

SICHTUNG & KÖRUNG

A Sichtung or Körung is not a test. It's about getting an overview of a dog's mental and physical characteristics according to fixed guidelines worked out by RSV. Open for everyone with a GSD or BSD.
